Jackman Stabbed Stuntwoman On X-men Movie

Hugh Jackman accidentally stabbed a stuntwoman in the arm while filming the first X-men movie - during a fight scene as his clawed character Wolverine.

The Australian actor had to wear real metal talons while filming the 2000 comic book blockbuster and admits handling the prop was quite dangerous.

Jackman recalls one incident which left Rebecca Romijn's stunt double seriously hurt - forcing moviemakers to rethink how to film the scenes involving the superhero's famous claws.

He says, "On the very first film we had real metal claws and the girl who was playing Mystique, Rebecca Romijn, her stunt double and I were doing a fight sequence in the Statue of Liberty. I went to stab her in the arm, which was part of the choreography, and she's meant to move her arm away and she forgot and the thing went right into her arm, like an inch.

"I was stunned. It was one of those things, it was so deep, there was a hole, there was no blood coming out and then like a minute later, it was like a geyser. I didn't faint and I thought she was going to freak out, but she just said, 'Yes! I have been stabbed by Wolverine!' Typical stuntwoman."

And Jackman admits that subsequent efforts to prevent him using real metal claws were not particularly successful - and even involved him using a fake limb with one arm tucked behind his back. The prop was only used in one scene before it was discarded.

Jackman's latest outing as the superhero, X-Men Origins: Wolverine hits cinemas on 1 May.

Gavin Hood's Origins Inspired by Source Material

When it comes to movies based on comic books, fans of the original source material are typically the most critical audience and have been very vocal about errors or perceived "continuity flaws" in the adapted works in the past. Gavin Hood, director of the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie from 20th Century Fox, was all-too-aware of this going into the project. To the delight of fans, the comic books that provided inspiration for the film are two of the most acclaimed stories in Marvel Comics' Wolverine mythos. In a recent interview with Wizard magazine, Hood director said:

The two [comics] that most inform our movie are the Origin story and the Weapon X [story]. But I think we [could have spent] and entire movie just on that first Origin series, so I think that it would be fair to say that our movie's inspired by those two series rather than absolutely true to them.

When dealing with a character that has lived an exceedingly long life, the healthy use of flashback sequences is essential. When asked what criteria was used to select the important moments in Wolverine's development, Hood said:

We needed to move [Wolverine] through from about 1860 when he's born as James Howlett through marvel"Logan Through Time" story by no means. We had a story set in the not too distant past...so the bulk of our story...happens between him and his brother and Striker. But we do meet him in the original moment of getting his claws, which I thought was exciting.

I learned just a couple of hours ago that the online contest to determine where X-Men Origins: Wolverine would have its premiere is more or less down to two finalists. Earlier in the week, Tempe, Arizona charged into the lead, which it held mostly uncontested for about 48 hours. But on Thursday, Davis, California staged a rally and it's now pretty much neck-and-neck.

Here's the deal on the premiere: There isn't a big Hollywood shindig for Wolverine; there will either be a big Davis shindig or a big Tempe shindig where all the stars show up for film on April 27th. The voting ends at 8:59pm Pacific Time (or local time, since both cities in the running are on Pacific Time). Basically, this all boils down to Sacramento and Phoenix, and no offense, citizens of northern California, but your governor is a movie star. Oh, and isn't the point of hosting a premiere somewhere else to get it out of California? I think it is.

A self-professed comic book fan, 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra' star Channing Tatum laid bare his true feeling of missing out on playing Gambit in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'.

Though drawing envy when landing the role of Duke in the forthcoming "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra", Channing Tatum revealed there is one particular role he himself wishes to be able to carry out, Gambit. "Man, I was dying to play [Gambit]," the 28-year-old shared to MTV News about his desire to portray the character he holds dear to his heart.

"My dad's from Louisiana and I think I've always just gravitated towards Gambit in general," he in addition explained about his personal connection with the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" character. "He's just cooler than anything to me."

Actually, this "Step Up" hunk has nailed the role of Gambit's alter ego, Remy LeBeau, after he auditioned for Brett Ratner's "X-Men: The Last Stand". At the last minute, however, the character's participation was cut off. When the character is finally included in "Wolverine", Tatum was immediately contacted. But, he was already attached to "G.I. Joe".

While in the end he didn't get to play Gambit, he still has nothing but positive words for Taylor Kitsch, the depicter of the Cajun card player in "Wolverine". "I'm really interested to see how the guy plays him because I have a pretty clear version of Gambit in my head," he said. "I'm sure the guy is going to be great, though."

Channing Tatum will be seen starring as the leader of the special operation team G.I. Joe in "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra" when the live-action movie arrives in theaters across the U.S. on August 7. In the meantime, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" is set to blast off in U.S. theaters on May 1.

X-Men star Hugh Jackman turned real-life superhero on Thursday, when he abseiled off a London newspaper building for charity.

The actor, who stars in forthcoming prequel X Men Origins: Wolverine, jumped off the headquarters of fellow Aussie Rupert Murdoch's News International - the home of newspapers The Sun, The Times and the News of the World - to raise money for The Sun's Help for Heroes campaign, which aids British soldiers wounded in conflict.

Jackman was joined in the abseil stunt by newspaper bosses Rebekah Wade, Dominic Mohan and Murdoch's media mogul son James.

We’re just two weeks away from the start of the summer movie season and the release of the film that’s kicking it off: X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

With the movie’s release rapidly approaching, we’re entering the final stages of marketing and so we have a few new images for you including an international poster and a pretty cool milk advertisement.

Check them out and see what you think:





Without any text, all of these images would make for great posters. Notice how they keep emphasizing Cyclops’ inclusion in the film - strange as he’s such a minor character. They’re really trying to show off the popular Marvel characters to tie this into the original X-Trilogy for the non-comic readers or those who only saw/still watch the old or new cartoon series’.

While the actual movie promo shot of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine looks awesome, it just seems so ordinary now. It seems like we’ve seen so many images of Wolverine standing with his blades out over the years that it has become so non-special and uninteresting. This for me, makes the Got Milk ad the best image out of the group.

We can chalk that up to over-exposure of the character in the comics for far too long and now in the movies too. Let’s hope he’s as bad-ass as Jackman proclaims he is in this movie.

When I think Wolverine, I think delicious pizza. Ok maybe not, but I will from now on since Papa Johns Pizza (who refuses to deliver to my home unless I find some way to move it one block to the west) is hosting an exclusive new clip from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It’s delicious.

The clip is a longer version of the now, very over played sequence you’ve seen in the trailer where Wolverine takes out a helicopter. Apparently before he took out the helicopter he also took out a heavily armored Hummer. As a Wolverine fan, I have a small problem with this clip. No it’s not all the excessive CGI and bad green screen work. Here’s the problem: When the chopper crashes, Wolverine is thrown free thus saving him from the fiery wreckage of the chopper. Why? If you’re making a movie about an indestructible character, shouldn’t you let him crash with the chopper and then maybe crawl his way out of the wreckage? I mean the whole thrown from the chopper as it crashes thing looks ridiculously unrealistic so why do it? This is Wolverine, you don’t need cheap coincidence to save him. Let him blow up with the helicopter, and then walk out singed but healed. What, you didn’t want to mess up his jacket? Lame.

A Deadpool project has been in the air since David S. Goyer (writer of Blade-Trilogy, Batman Begins/The Dark Knight) did a script while Blade was in production, but now with X-Men Origins: Wolverine a few weeks from release, buzz of a solo flick has ramped up. Deadpool creator Robert Liefeld recently chimed in, adding fuel to the fire.

Liefeld is the mastermind behind a few pivotal characters besides Deadpool: he’s the reason why Marvel has Cable and X-Force. Though he’s faced criticism in the comic book industry, lately he’s been dabbling in a little screen writing and being involved with film. Via Twitter, he’s posted a few notes about the upcoming Wolverine origin piece and Deadpool’s solo arc.

Also, talked to producers of ‘Wolverine’ yesterday and they said that there are definite plans to spin off ‘Deadpool’ if the box office works

He also reminded us that the leaked Wolverine workprint is incomplete.

“The Deadpool re-shoots with Ryan Reynolds aren’t in the bootlegged version. audience test response warranted more Deadpool in the pic!”

Now I’m all for a solo movie of the “Merc with a Mouth,” he deserves one. But I’m also inclined to be skeptical. From the footage screened, and the whispers of plot details heard, the movie version of Deadpool manifests very differently than his comic book counterpart. That’s not a good thing. Aside from Deadpool’s signature black comedy, he’s uniquely the only character in the Marvel Universe who knows he’s in a comic book. The recently released video profile of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool didn’t really feel like it did the necessary research of the comics. The essence is there, but it’s very faint.

Fox could always re-tell his story through the solo project and “fix what they’ve done,” but previous interviews have Reynolds saying he is the character that eventually becomes Deadpool. If they want to really pursue a Deadpool spinoff, they cannot ruin the character or a boycott is sure to ensue.

Nevertheless, Liefeld insures us the character is intact–via the 140-character Twitter format.

“The question I am getting asked the most nowadays, especially at conventions, is how do I feel about Deadpool in the ‘Wolverine’ movie

My answer is, I’m thrilled he’s in the movie, his character is true to the comic and I’m pleased with how he is presented. But I also remind

everyone that the movie is called “Wolverine” and not Deadpool. I hear rumors that they put more Deadpool in the final cut. fingers crossed

It’s also cool to see Gambit coming to the big screen, he looks cool, feels like 90’s all over again. Next up….Cable? Domino….? Please.”

I’d love to see a comic book character that knows he’s now in a movie, but if Watchmen is a sign, niche comic books don’t make “successful” films (that is, in box office terms).

While promoting movies around the world actors usually have to do things that they probably wouldn’t do in the civilized world. What you see below doesn’t really make sense, but if X-Men Origins: Wolverine flops it won’t be because Hugh Jackman didn’t promote it hard enough.

Given the choice, what would be your superpower? As star of new comic-book movie spin-off Wolverine, Hugh Jackman went for lupine claws, an unassailable exo-skeleton... and a wolfish grin (or was that just left over from his recent gig with Nicole Kidman?)

Cockatoo Island is just a 20-minute ferry ride from Sydney Harbour, but it feels like the middle of nowhere. Convicts were sent here in the 19th century to build the dry docks. You can imagine what they went through. It's 1am and bitingly cold and a sense of desolation permeates the stone buildings.

Beautiful but bleak, this is one of the key locations for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman.

When I arrive for my exclusive set visit, they are in the middle of filming a pivotal scene; Jackman, ripped and rugged as Wolverine, is tearing through a cavernous warehouse. Roaring with animalistic rage, he is laying into his brother, Sabretooth, played by an equally vicious-looking Liev Schreiber. Both are bloodied and sweating; the fighting is visceral. You can almost feel the force of the punches.

There is a macho competition between the two actors, explains Jackman later, when he stops for a break between takes.

'There is a fair bit of testosterone flying around. We look to see if the other one's fading and then both of us always say, "No, I'm fine, let's go again. Come on, you can hit me harder than that."'

He thumps the table with his fist.

X-Men to Become Vampires

X-Men stars Daniel Cudmore (X2 and X3) and Cameron Bright (X3) have signed on play Vampires in Twilight sequel New Moon.
Daniel Cudmore, who is best known for playing Colossus in the X-Men films will take the role of Felix one of the guards of the Volturi.
Cameron Bright, who played Leech in X-Men: The Last Stand, will be playing Alec. Alec is the brother of Dakota Fanning's character Jane, a high ranking and powerful Volturi member.

New Moon is sheduled for release in November 2009.

In February Josh Schwartz said that he was just getting started on writing X-Men: First Class, so we didn’t expect to hear much at this stage of development, however, promotion for X-Men Origins: Wolverine is gearing up and people behind the X-Men franchise are starting to talk. Lauren Shuler Donner has produced all the X-Men films, including Wolverine, and revealed on Fox Movie Channel’s Life after Film School that she hoped X-Men: First Class becomes a whole new X-Men franchise. She also revealed which characters will be involved.

“It is the first class of Xavier’s school, way back when, so it’s young Scott, young Jean, young Beast and that’ll be really fun,” Donner said. “I think (the plan) is to follow some of the characters into their own stories, and weave them back into the X-Men world.

“And hopefully First Class will become its own franchise and we can follow them as they grow up.”

She also acknowledged that a Magneto movie remains in development.

I’m glad we finally know which characters the film will revolve around, as there was speculation that it could focus on a whole new bunch of characters. While we will be seeing young versions of Cyclops, Jean and Beast, we have already seen young versions of Iceman and Angel in the trilogy, so the famous original line-up probably won’t happen. There is also the fact that a young Cyclops appears in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, so the chances are X-Men: First Class will take place after Wolverine, and Tim Pocock (who plays young Cyclops) could have a good few years ahead of him, unless they recast for whatever reason.

They will obviously involve other characters, including some we have seen before. We could see a young Storm (we caught a glimpse of a toddler-looking Storm in the first Wolverine trailer, however Lauren Shuler Donner said that the scene won’t make the final cut. This could be so that it doesn’t screw up continuity if they plan on adding a young Storm in X-Men: First Class). As it will be the first class of Xavier’s school Patrick Stewart may end up returning, unless they recast Xavier like they did with William Stryker. I hope they don’t though. I’d like to think that Patrick Stewart will be the man that links the X-Men franchise together on-screen.

I’m happy that Fox have chosen Josh Schwartz (The O.C, Chuck) as writer. If you’re going to make a movie about young adults, you might as well get the guy who knows how to write them well. Fanboys may want people like Christopher Nolan (the current fanboy God after The Dark Knight) to write and direct their favourite superhero’s, but writing for young mutants with young mutant problems might not be one of their strengths. I am eager to find out who ends up directing this. As long as it’s not Brett Ratner i’ll be happy.

Fox Predicting Big Numbers for "Wolverine"

It was recently announced that a leaked copy of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" has already been downloaded over a million times, which could mean a loss of millions of dollars at the box office for 20th Century Fox. Not quite.

It turns out that "Wolverine" is tracking incredibly well among young men and guys ages 31 and older, the two key demographics needed to boost the opening weekend numbers. That makes the movie the No. 1 choice among males in those groups.

We will have to wait until May 1st to see how the film does, but at this point, Fox is very optimistic. One executive said that it is too early to predict the opening numbers, but they're sure to be huge. "Wolverine is in fabulous shape," he added.

'Wolverine' Premiere Contest In Its Final Days

The online contest to host the U.S. premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine in your home town is coming to an end this week, but since we've updated you on the top ten before, we thought we'd give you the latest look at the tallies.

Selfishly, I'd like the premiere in Tempe, Arizona, which currently ranks third. I suspect since Phoenix is also in the top ten, if there was a concentrated effort on choosing one over the other, Tempe might be leading with just four days left. So, again, since the theater that would host that premiere is literally nine minutes from my house, I'd sure dig it if the Wolverine premiere happened in Tempe. So if you're a local, vote for zip code 85281 and not Phoenix or Scottsdale.

I don't know for certain that Tempe would be leading if all the votes had come down for it instead of splitting with Phoenix, because I don't know how big a lead Davis, California has over Hastings, Nebraska, which is in second place. I do know that the Phoenix metro is the only one with two cities in the top ten, so it's an educated guess.

Hidden Surprises Promised for 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'

Despite the fact that the unfinished copy of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" final cut has made its rounds earlier, director Gavin Hood insisted that the pirated version hasn't contained everything. In a recent interview with Wizard magazine, the 45-year-old filmmaker revealed that there are still plenty of hidden surprises in store.

"Don't leave before the credits are over," the "Rendition" helmer explained of where to seek the surprises. "Now I say that and I better not be in trouble, because you do realize that I'm not done with the editing process and the studio still has to sign off on everything. But, yes, Hugh [Jackman] and I have a couple Easter eggs somewhere in there."

Back on April 1, reports were surfacing that a workprint version of "Wolverine" has been leaked and available for download on several bittorrent sites since Tuesday, March 31. Soon after, 20th Century Fox came up with a statement confirming the story as well as revealing their intention to pursue the source of the initial leak.

Taking the focus of the story on the metal-clawed mutant Wolverine, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" serves as a prequel to the "X-Men" trilogy. It chronicles the violent and romantic early life of the titular character, including his participation on the Weapon X program and his complex relationship with Victor Creed.

The action fantasy stars Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Danny Huston as William Stryker among others. Penned by David Benioff, it has been set to open in U.S. theaters on May 1.

Why should I see it? : Wolverine is without a doubt the main man from Marvel. Played brilliantly in the first two films by Hugh Jackman, he was kinda shite in “The Last Stand,” but then they were all kind of shite in that film. This origin story should hopefully see a return to form for the character, plus the addition of other popular characters from the franchise. I have a lot of faith in Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth too.

MPAA is Coming After BitTorrent Users

Ever since "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" leaked online, 20th Century Fox, the FBI and the MPAA started a manhunt for the person responsible for stealing a copy of the yet to be released film.

Since "Wolverine" is shared through BitTorrent sites, the MPAA has been doing everything in its power to obtain private emails of TorrentSpy and The Pirate Bay, in order to dig up dirt on their owners and users.

One way the organization has been doing this is by hiring a hacker back in 2005, who has previously configured the TorrentSpy mail server to copy and forward all of the site's emails to his own Gmail account. The 34 pages of information he gathered was then sold to the MPAA for $15,000. TorrentSpy's owner later sued the MPAA, arguing that they had spied on him illegally, but he ended up losing the case.

The court ruled that the MPAA did not technically intercept them under the WireTap Act, but TorrentSpy is calling the decision a "dangerous attempt to circumvent privacy laws." If the ruling is upheld, it will basically legalize the unauthorized copying of other people's emails, which raises serious privacy concerns.

TorrentSpy has now filed a brief at the Court of Appeals and that the MPAA is expected to do the same in the near future. From then on it can take up to a year before the appeal is heard in court.

The point of this story is that if the law sides with the MPAA, everyone who has downloaded a copy of "Wolverine" or uses sharing sites could be at risk.

There are a few issues with the menus not ligning up, but this will hopefully not be to problematic until it is fixed.

Ellen Page, Murphy, Cotillard Line Up for Nolan’s Next

Juno actress Ellen Page, Batman Begins villain Cillian Murphy, and Oscar winner Marion Cotillard are in talks to join Christopher Nolan’s next film, Inception.

The three talents would join Leonardo DiCaprio in the science fiction thriller described as being set “within the architecture of the mind.” DiCaprio is said to be a CEO-type, according to the Hollywood Reporter, and Cotillard would play his wife in the film. Page, rumored as a member of the cast since last month, would play a college grad student and DiCaprio’s sidekick.

No word on Murphy’s role, who reteams with the director after playing the Scarecrow in the first of the current Batman trilogy. Nolan has said he plans to make this film while hashing out the details for a third Batman movie.

James Franco was also in discussions to join the Inception cast, but had to opt out of the project because of scheduling conflicts with the comedy Your Highness.

Nolan is shooting the film this summer for a release on July 16, 2010.

For those unfamiliar with the name Jonathan Parker, a little film from back in 2001 titled Bartleby which starred Crispin Glover might ring a bell. I just recently watched this fantastic adaptation of Herman Melville's novel Bartleby the Scrivener again, and I'm really looking forward to Parker's latest. Untitled stars Adam Goldberg as a brooding music composer (you should really check out his redneck role in From Within) and Marley Shelton as the Chelsea art gallerist who falls for him. Vinnie Jones is in there somewhere too, go Vinnie!

Kelsey Grammer To Receive Inaugural NAB Television Chairman's Award

Four-time Emmy and two-time Golden Globe winner Kelsey Grammer will receive the Television Chairman's Award from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). The screen and television star will receive the award at the NAB Show Television Luncheon on April 20th.

According to the press release, the Television Chairman Award "recognizes individuals for a significant breakthrough in one or more specific art disciplines in television." The luncheon will be hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, star of the hit show "Girlfriends," which Grammer served as Executive Producer.

Grammer is best known for his eleven-season run on the critically acclaimed "Frasier," which was voted as one of the best sitcoms of all time in a British poll. He also currently serves as Executive Producer of the CW hit "The Game" and the NBC drama "Medium."

Grammar can next be seen in the upcoming big-screen remake of the 80's dance classic "Fame," as well as the Tim Allen-directed comedy "Crazy on the Outside." He is also heading a pilot for ABC which is currently in development.
