Howl of a big party on set for Jackman
From:
By: Christine Sams
THE claws were out at a celebrity party last night, but only to honour Hugh Jackman's action film Wolverine.
Jackman splashed out on a VIP party for the cast in Sydney, inviting friends, including Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber, to an exclusive soiree.
Jackman and his wife, Deborra-lee Furness, who have been in town during the making of the action film, were the hosts of the event for cast and crew.
Not only does Jackman play the ultra-hairy Wolverine in the big-budget film, his production company, Seed - also run by John Palermo and Furness - is involved in making it.
Jackman spent up big on the party, supplying gourmet catering for A-list guests and hiring entertainers.
It has been a busy few nights for the Wolverine production team.
On Friday night, cast and crew transformed a Sydney park into a sci-fi playground to film scenes.
The shoot took place at Federal Park in Glebe with Jackman and Furness keeping a close eye on proceedings.
Tight security was in place as scenes were shot overnight, although parked trucks in the usually sleepy road surrounding the park and a few mutant types wandering around gave residents an indication something unusual was up.
Jackman agreed to create the Wolverine spin-off after the success of the X-Men films, in which he gained global stardom as the superhero.
The star has trained extensively for the role - eating strictly controlled meals every three hours - to maintain the bulk needed to portray the character.
Production for Wolverine began in New Zealand last month, before shifting to Sydney.
Watts has returned to Australia, with her young son Alexander, to accompany her partner, Schreiber, during the shoot. After Sydney the production heads to New Orleans.
Wolverine is due for worldwide release next year.

Perth boy to play young Hugh Jackman in Wolverine movie

THIRTEEN-year-old Perth boy Troye Mellet will play the young Hugh Jackman in his new X-Men movie, Wolverine.
The baby-faced lad won the role after YouTube videos of him singing caught the eye of Hollywood talent scouts.
Mellet was then asked to submit an audition tape - which won him the part.
The budding singer and actor performed solo on the past two Telethons and did a duet with Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian.
He also played Oliver at The Regal Theatre last year. See clips of his stellar performances HERE.

In October, we reported that young actor Kodi Smit-McPhee had landed the role of Young Logan in 20th Century Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Because of the change in shooting dates for "Wolverine," however, it looks like Smit-McPhee had to start shooting The Road (a thriller with Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron) and the production has instead cast 13-year-old Perth resident Troye Mellet in the part. You can read more on this casting change here.
