Fans call for X-Men 4 with Joss Whedon directing - do you agree?

JUST OVER 1,000 people have now signed an online petition calling for a film follow-up to the 2006 release X-Men: The Last Stand.

The currently on-release X-Men Origins: Wolverine is, of course, a prequel - and other prequels are planned (X-Men: First Class and X-Men Origins: Magneto).

But some fans also want sequels to the existing trilogy that take forward the storylines of the cure, Xavier's survival and the return of Magneto's powers.

While petitions are very common across the internet, and 1,000 people is not that big a number relative to the global audience of the movies, the campaign does show some strength of feeling out there for further X-movies, as I had also reported earlier.

In addition, a further online petition calls for Joss Whedon - who wrote the Astonishing X-Men comic book series - to be hired to direct the fourth movie.

SFX magazine recently asked readers what they wanted to see in an X-Men 4 and the five most popular answers were:

  1. Long-awaited comic book favourites, the most popular being Sentinels (mutant-hunting robots) and the evil, ancient mutant called Apocalypse
  2. Less Wolverine, as he has dominated all the films so far
  3. Reboot the franchise to improve the casting (Halle Berry came in for heavy criticism)
  4. Give Rogue a total overhaul to make her tougher, more powerful and more in line with the comic books
  5. Use the Days of Future Past storyline in which Kitty Pryde travels back from a dystopian future (where mutants are being slaughtered by Sentinels) in order to prevent it all happening...this would create an alternative reality and could wipe the events of X-Men: The Last Stand, which upset many fans!

Other readers suggested bringing back director Bryan Singer - the director of the first two X-Men films who has proved without doubt to be the best suited to the franchise - while there were also calls for the return of Nightcrawler and for boosting the role of plasma-generating mutant Jubilee who had cameo appearances in the movies.

WOLVERINE AND 007 UNITE … ON STAGE

From: reeltalktv.com

Wolverine and James Bond are coming to Broadway! According to the New York Post, Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig will star in the Broadway show “A Steady Rain.” The play is a drama by Keith Huff in which the lifelong friendship between a pair of cops is tested when they find themselves entangled in a domestic dispute incident in a poor neighborhood.

While Jackman has Broadway experience – he won a Tony in 2004 for his performance as Peter Allen in “The Boy From Oz” – “A Steady Rain” will mark Craig’s New York City stage debut. Craig achieved Hollywood fame playing 007 in “Casino Royale” and “Quantum of Solace,” but actually started out on the stage in London.

The show’s producer, Barbara Broccoli, will be in the Big Apple this weekend checking out potential venues. Like the show’s stars, Broccoli has had experience in both stage productions and film. She oversees the entire James Bond franchise and produced “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” in 2005. While her last musical may have been considered a monumental flop, the article says theater sources are predicting “A Steady Rain” to be an immense hit with the potential to match Julia Roberts’ recording breaking 12-week run in “Three Days of Rain” during which $10 million worth of tickets were sold.

Jackman and Craig in "A Steady Rain" sounds great, but you can't tell me you wouldn't rather see Bond and Wolverine doing a duet.

Ten Things You Never Knew About Ryan Reynoldsr

From: digitalspy.co.uk
Written by: Alex Fletcher

Ryan Reynolds must be one of the luckiest blokes alive. He famously split up with one of the most successful musicians of the '90s (Alanis Morrisette), only to fall into the arms of one of the world's most beautiful women (Scarlett Johansson). He's has starring roles in crude teen farces (Van Wilder), Hollywood blockbusters (Wolverine) and sloppy rom-coms Definitely, Maybe, while this month he stars alongside Julia Roberts in the engaging drama Fireflies In The Garden. Keep on reading to discover ten fascinating facts about the Canadian hottie.

1. Ryan was born in October 1976 to Vancouver food wholesaler Jim and retail worker Tammy.

2. Reynolds may seem like a natural on the big screen, but at the age of 12 he actually failed in drama at Kitsilano Secondary School.

3. Reynolds may have looked like a hard man in recent action-adventure Wolverine, but he's not as tough as he looks. The Canadian has a genuine fear of flying. "When I was 19, I decided to get my sky diving licence. I did 12 jumps, then on my 13th my chute didn't open," he says. "My life was flashing before my eyes, but I managed to pull my reserve, which opened and I landed okay... it's given me a lifelong fear of flying."

4. It is strongly rumoured that when Reynolds was hunting for his big break in the '90s that he was offered the role of Alexander "Xander" LaVelle Harris in Buffy. Luckily for Nicholas Brendon, he apparently turned the TV show down.

5. Reynolds made his TV debut in Nickelodeon's teen drama Hillside at the age of 12. However, the young actor doesn't have fond memories of his time on the show. He has since described the programme as a "really horrible soap" and believes the show was only kept on air for three years because of "stoned college kids".

6. Has dating the stunning starlet Scarlett Johansson made Reynolds realise what an attractive young man he is? Apparently not! "Acting has given me a way to channel my angst," he says. "I feel like an overweight, pimply faced kid a lot of the time."

7. Reynolds hasn't always lived a glamorous Hollywood lifestyle. When he was trying to get his big break, he toured LA auditions in a stripped-out jeep. He turned up to meet producers in the vehicle, despite it not even having any doors.

8. Ryan may be a Hollywood darling now, but his early frat-boy roles were greeted by sneering reviews from critics. Early episodes of his ABC sitcom Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place were lambasted by TV reviewers, while his turn in National Lampoon: Van Wilder was described as "tacky", "unfunny" and "crude".

9. Reynolds famously gained 25lbs in muscle for his role as King in 2004's Blade: Trinity. His new physique was so extreme that producers couldn't find him a suitable body double and forced him to do all his own stunts in the film

10. Before he was famous, Reynolds worked various odd jobs to keep himself afloat financially. He worked as a busboy on yachts, served at nightclubs and even did a stint at a grocery store. It was only when he formed the Vancouver comedy improv group Yellow Snow that he discovered a direction for his career.

Gambit: The ace card in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

From: coventrytelegraph.net

ONE of the ace cards in Hugh Jackman's X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie is the long-awaited appearance of comic book favourite Gambit.

Taylor Kitsch plays the mutant, who has the power to charge objects with an explosive energy and often deploys a deck of playing cards and a staff.

Gambit has a huge following of comic book readers but they have had a frustrating wait to see him on the big screen.

Here I'm going to take a look at Gambit's rather unlucky card hand when it comes to the X-Men films and their multiple attempts to add him to the cast. His eventual appearance in Wolverine, along with other characters such as Deadpool and Blob, seems to have delivered the winning hand fans that have wanted for so long.

The character had been due to appear in the first X-Men movie in 2000. At the San Diego Comic Con that year, director Bryan Singer told a panel audience: "I almost had Gambit as a young boy on the basketball field, but the fear was that if he held the basketball, then released it and then it exploded, people would be like 'What's wrong with those basketballs?'. That is, people who weren't fans or didn't know the characters. But Gambit and Beast are two characters that I missed terribly."
