If Ryan Reynolds is to be believed, we won’t be seeing any of that Weapon XI nonsense that showed up at the end of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” in its spin-off “Deadpool” film. Or at least that’s what I got from this brief interview with Reynolds, who while doing promo rounds for his comedy “The Proposal”, got asked questions about the upcoming “Deadpool” movie that was announced almost as soon as the first weekend box office receipts for “Wolverine” came up roses.

Reynolds tells Hitfix:

Well, I’m intimately involved with it. We’re just trying to break a story right now and figure out who the villain is going to be and all that stuff. But, it’s going to be just like the comic books. I’m gonna have a messed up face and you may see some flashbacks of Wade earlier in his life, but primarily what you see is what you get in the comics and that’s the goal. And there is no better place to draw material from then the comics which are incredible.

And just to put a finer point on it, Reynolds said this to IGN about the movie’s ties to the “Wolverine” picture:

“Without saying too much, I can’t imagine that there’s gonna be any tie-in to the Wolverine movie at all.

…So many of the outlets that follow this character are curious what the elements will be, afraid that you won’t be disfigured, that you won’t wear the mask, and I laugh because there’s no way to do this without having the scarring, having the mask, having it all. And it can be done. It’s a no-brainer in that sense. You gotta have the character of Deadpool. You don’t want to just invent something new and call it Deadpool. “

You gotta figure that Reynolds’ involvement in the movie is of utmost importance. At this point, I doubt if anyone, especially the fans, will accept anyone else in the role except Reynolds, which is a good thing because it means he has pull in regards to the movie’s direction. That means if he’s got it in his head to make a comic book faithful Deadpool movie, it’s gonna happen.
