Hugh Jackman Talks Potential 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' Sequel

Starring as Wolverine in the 'X-Men Origins' film, Hugh Jackman hints on sequel possibility and teases on the story he wants to pick up.

Though "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" is literally months away from its theatrical release in 2009, talks of possible sequel have been thrown out by its star Hugh Jackman. Talking to MTV earlier, the co-star of Nicole Kidman in "Australia" shared his idea for the second "Wolverine" movie's plot that he wants to do, hinting that Wolverine may make his way to Japan.

Of it, Jackman said, "The most intriguing thing to me was the Japan story. I love the Japan story." He then added that the idea for the Japan set has been thought of for awhile now stating, "I wanted to do the Japan story from around 'X-Men 2.' Can you just picture Wolverine in Japan with the triads and the samurai? It's just genius."

On the reason it may be brought up in the sequel instead of the upcoming "Wolverine" movie, Jackman threw back a question, "How can you do that before you explain his origins?" He went on explaining the ground stating, "If we tried to mix the origin and Japan together, it wouldn't do justice to either. So you can tell by the answer where I'd like it to go."

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" itself is a prequel to the "X-Men" trilogy. Its story focuses on chronicling the violent and romantic early life of the titular character, including his participation on the Weapon X program and his complex relationship with Victor Creed. Developed under the direction of "Rendition" helmer Gavin Hood, it sees Liev Schreiber and Ryan Reynolds taking the roles of Sabretooth and Deadpool respectively. It will be opened in U.S. theaters on May 1, 2009.
