Wolverine, Magneto Among Empire’s Greatest Comic Book Characters

Empire has compiled a list of the 50 Greatest Comic Book Characters.

Features Deadpool, Emma Frost, Magneto and Wolverine.

Hayter hired for 'Lost Planet' movie

David Hayter has been hired to write the big screen adaptation of Capcom's video game Lost Planet, reports Variety.

Warner Bros is distributing the film, which is scheduled to be officially announced today at the E3 conference in Los Angeles.

Lost Planet focuses on an ice planet expedition to recover a powerful energy source that could save mankind.

Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul will serve as producers on the film.

Hayter has strong ties with the video game world, having voiced the Solid Snake character in Konami's Metal Gear Solid franchise. His screenwriting credits include X-Men and X2.

Capcom games Resident Evil and Street Fighter have previously been turned into feature films.

Activision Developing Wolverine and Transformers Games

MCV reports that Activision is taking on the games for both X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen:

In addition, a brand new Transformers outing, dubbed Revenge of the Fallen, which will tie-in with the new Paramount movie. There was also news of another movie licence – this time for 20th Century Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

X-Men star becomes real professor

Hollywood star Patrick Stewart, who plays Professor Xavier in the X-Men science fiction films, has had a real-life professorship given to him.

The actor was taking on the new role of Professor of Performing Arts at Huddersfield University, where he is chancellor, in a ceremony on Monday.

He was also leading 400 students in the university's inaugural graduate procession through the town centre.

Stewart said of his professorship: "I'm truly honoured to receive this title."

The Huddersfield-born actor, who was installed as the university's chancellor in November 2004, said: "The university is an outstanding educational institution, one that I am extremely proud to be associated with, and I look forward to continuing to work with the staff and students."

Vice-chancellor Professor Bob Cryan said: "We are delighted that Patrick was able to attend today and lead our first procession through Huddersfield, which was a great honour for the university and the town."

This year 6,000 students will graduate from the University of Huddersfield, with 63 achieving degrees in drama.

The third film in the popular Underworld franchise delves into the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires, known as Death Dealers, and the barbaric Lycans (werewolves). A young Lycan, Lucian (Michael Sheen), emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Bill Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has persecuted them for hundreds of years. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, the beautiful vampire Sonja (Rhona Mitra), in his battle to free the Lycans from their brutal enslavement. Quarantine: Television reporter Angela Vidal (Jennifer Carpenter) and her cameraman (Steve Harris) are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles fire station. After a routine 911 call takes them to a small apartment building, they find police officers already on the scene in response to blood-curdling screams and soon learn that a woman living there has been infected by something unknown. After a few of the residents are viciously attacked, they try to escape only to find that the CDC has quarantined the building. Phones, Internet, television and cell phone access have been cut off, and officials are not relaying information to those locked inside. When the quarantine is finally lifted, the only evidence of what took place is the news crew's videotape. Quarantine opens in theaters everywhere October 17.
